Chicken Momos

I am in Bhadreshwar now. Those who might not know where Bhadreshwar is, let me give you a small introduction of the place. Bhadreshwar is a small town situated near Hooghly River in Hooghly district in West Bengal. Only 50 kms distant from Kolkata, it is a comfortable suburban area, ideal for leading a peaceful life away from the clamour and congestion of a city. This is where my in laws place is located at.

Bhadreshwar and Chandannagar (hardly 20 minutes distance from Bhadreshwar) are both famous for their sweets. Each time when I come to my in laws' place, I make sure to carry a bag full of sweets for my parents. My mother so lovingly relishes them all. In fact, my father who is a bit of health freak asks for repeated serving.

Ingredients:                                  Cooking time: 20-30 minutes
ü  100 gm chicken (minced)
ü  1 cup of all-purpose flour
ü  1/2 cup of chopped onion
ü  1 tsp of white oil
ü  1 tsp of ginger-garlic paste
ü  1/2 cup of chopped cabbage
ü  1 tsp of black pepper powder
ü  1 tsp meat masala powder (easily available in the market)
ü  5-6 green chillies (finely chopped)
ü  Few sprigs of coriander leaves (chopped)
ü  Salt to taste
For the sauce:
ü  4-5 dry red chillies (soaked in water for atleast an hour)
ü  4 tsp of tomato sauce
ü  4 tsp of tomato puree
ü  Salt to taste
ü  a pinch of sugar
ü  1/4 tsp ginger-garlic paste
Method:
1) In a mixing bowl, mix together chicken with onion, cabbage, green chillies, coriander leaves, ginger-garlic paste, salt, black pepper and meat masala powder.
2) Knead all-purpose flour to a dough along with 1/2 tsp salt,1 tsp of white oil and required amount of water. Make small balls as shown below:

3) Then using a rolling pin, roll them out into a circular shape of 2 inches in diameter. Stuff the filling in the centre, fold and seal the edges.

4) Steam for 5-7 minutes in microwave. If using a gas oven, steam the same for 20-25 minutes to achieve the desired result.
5) For the sauce, blend together all the ingredients to a fine paste.
6) Team the momos with the sauce and enjoy the feast.
